Textile dealer arrested with $1.4 m worth of drugs on his way to Cambodia

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has intercepted a textile merchant with 4.4kgs of methamphetamine worth $1.4miilion at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on his way to Cambodia.

It is the first seizure of the year at the airport and the first consignment going to Cambodia. The 40 parcels of drugs, concealed inside foodstuff, were detected during the outward screening of passengers on an Ethiopian Airline flight.

The 47 years old suspect, Ifeka Charles Obi, from Oba Idemili South LGA of Anambra State, said he had been promised N1m payment by his “sponsors”. According to him, as textile dealer, he lost everything due to family problems and that it is first attempt at smuggling drugs.
