Father arrested for allowing his daughter remarry

The police in Kaduna State have arrested a Sharia judge, Murtala Nasir, and former chairman of Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited (PAN), Alhaji Sani Dauda, for allegedly giving out the latter’s daughter, Nasiba Dauda, in marriage twice.


Nasir was said to have conducted the marriage on Saturday, November 9, 2019. Also arrested by the police was Shehu Dauda, one of the sons of Alhaji Sani Dauda. .

The three of them were arrested on Monday, November 11, and are being detained at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad office of the Kaduna State Police Command.

According to the lawyer to the accused persons, Sani Katu, his clients’ arrest was allegedly masterminded by former husband of Nasiba, one Abubakar Musa, said to be a close associate of the Inspector General of Police, Abubakar Adamu.

He said that Abubakar, who was not happy with the marriage, allegedly boasted that he would use his contacts to deal with whoever was involved in contracting the marriage.

The Sharia court judge explained that Nabisa’s first marriage with Musa was officially nullified on 5th January, 2018. He explained that the marriage followed due process in line with Islamic laws and the Nigerian Constitution.

On his part, Alhaji Sani Dauda explained that he gave out his daughter to her new husband after she had officially divorced her first husband.

He explained that Abubakar who claimed to have a close relationship with the IGP, vowed to deal with him even when there was an existing divorce certificate between him and his daughter, Nasiba, dated 5th January 2018.

While stating unequivocally that there was no existing order restraining Nasiba or her family from conducting a new marriage after her first marriage failed, the Sharia court judge said that he and Alhaji Sani Dauda were consequently arrested by operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command on the alleged order of the IGP for contracting the marriage between Nasiba and her new husband, Abdullahi Kullama.
