More than $37,000 has been raised in just 11 hours to support a Syrian refugee pictured selling pens in Beirut, Lebanon while carrying his sleeping daughter. In the picture, the man offers biros while his little daughter sleeps wrapped over
his shoulder. The photos of the father and child went viral after they were posted by activist Gissur Simonarson.
He was then told to help the man. And so Gissur, based in Norway, announced he was going to try to find him. He launched a Twitter account named #BuyPens and within 30 minutes the refugee was located. 24 hours later, he was identified as single a dad-of-two, Abdul. Gissur launched a crowdfunding page to raise money to help him start a new life. In the first 30 minutes Gissur’s goal of $5,000 was raised.
The fundraising total has now reached more than $37k in 11 hours…… Abdul thanked God it wasn’t a Nigerian man dt took his picture cuz he’d av jst used it to creat a funny meme n send it to Funny African Pics or Only In Naija……
