Philippine Rakosa was sentenced to one year imprisonment for caning an 8-year-old grade two pupil with a hose pipe for failing a class test. The incident occurred on Feb. 8, 2014, at Gordon`s Primary School in Alexandra, Johannesburg. The
magistrate, Gideon Suhnetler, said that it is time teachers realized that corporal punishment is outlawed in South Africa.
Prosecutor, Jackie Letsoalo, requested the court to jail her for 5 years but the magistrate exercised leniency and jailed her for 1 year because she is the sole breadwinner in her family…. and also doesn’t want her to lose her coke-bottle shape since she is an aspiring fashion model…..
